AdminYouth Action Network Sri Lanka (YAN) successfully conducted a One-Day Leadership and Drug Prevention Camp for Grade 9–11 students of Badhibiyya Muslim Maha Vidyalaya, following a request from the Jamalia Youth Club.
The programme focused on strengthening youth leadership skills while building awareness about alcohol, tobacco, and other drug related harms. Through interactive discussions and activities, students explored leadership qualities, responsible decision making, and the importance of becoming active members of their communities.
A key focus of the programme was educating young people about alcohol and tobacco industry interference, including the strategies used by industries to influence communities and normalize harmful products. Students were encouraged to critically analyze these tactics and become empowered to stand against industry influence by promoting healthier choices and creating positive change among their peers.
A separate session was also conducted for parents, providing guidance on understanding drug-related risks, identifying challenges faced by young people, and creating supportive environments that help protect children from harmful influences.
Through initiatives like this, YAN Sri Lanka continues to develop informed and empowered young leaders who are ready to challenge industry interference, advocate for healthier communities, and contribute towards a future where youth freedom and happiness are protected.
