Independence Day 2022

Children must be taught how to think,  not what to think is a well-known quote by Margaret Mead. Have we ever thought how if, we have to ask permission or get on order to do our daily routines  like eating, sleeping, working and bathing. It’s quite tragedy and cannot even imagine that as we all are independents. Likewise, for a country it’s totally unhealthy when it’s dependent and  people of that particular county not to allowed to select their own leaders or cultivate their own economic and cultural well-being.  We are now totally independence as our forefathers brought it for us. From a.c 1505 – 1948 our mother Sri Lanka ruled by three governments which are Portuguese, Dutch and  British.

Apart from other countries Sri Lankans gained freedom very peacefully and strategically  through a peaceful movement called Sri Lankan Independence Movement. The Sri Lankan independence movement was a peaceful political movement which was aimed at achieving independence and self-rule for the country of Sri Lanka, then British Ceylon, from the British Empire. The switch of powers was generally known as peaceful transfer of power from the British administration to Ceylon representatives, a phrase that implies considerable continuity with a colonial era that lasted 400 years.[1] It was initiated around the turn of the 20th century and led mostly by the educated middle class. It succeeded when, on 4 February 1948, Ceylon was granted independence as the Dominion of Ceylon. Dominion status within the British Commonwealth was retained for the next 24 years until 22 May 1972 when it became a republic and was renamed the Republic of Sri Lanka.

There were a lot of leaders who gave their wealth, hard works and even their lives to gain independence for Sri Lanka. They dreamt an independent living for their upcoming generations. Therefore we celebrate them as our national heroes.

32 Participants of the Great Rebellion of 1817–18 who were declared as “betrayers” and expelled to Mauritius by the Martial Court, made National Heroes on 11 September 2017.

Participants (49) of the Great Rebellion of 1817–18 who were sentenced to death by the Martial Court, made National Heroes on 11 September 2017. 19 Leaders of the Great Rebellion of 1817–18 who were labeled by the British as traitors, made National Heroes on 8 December 2016.

We, Sri Lankans celebrate independence day annually which is lead by our honorable President. National Day, also known as Independence Day, is a Sri Lankan national holiday celebrated annually on 4 February to commemorate the country’s political independence from British rule in 1948. It is celebrated all over the country through a flag-hoisting ceremony, dances, parades and performances.

All our forefathers strived together with unity despite their ethnicity or caste. Through that they made our lives better and they have taught  us how to fight against our common enemies like disasters, foreign energies and economical crisis with harmony.
